On June 12-13, a delegation from China representing Guizhou Normal University visited P.M. Masherov VSU. The delegation consisted of Li Qiuhua, Director of the International joint research center for water ecology, and Xiao Jing, a researcher at the center. P.M. Masherov VSU was represented by First Vice-Rector Andrei Mekhovich, Vice-Rector for scientific work Yevgeny Arshansky, Head of the Research Department Irina Krasovskaya, as well as the leadership and teachers of the Faculty of Chemical, Biological and Geographical Sciences.
The key goal of the visit was to organize cooperation in the scientific field and prepare an application for the joint scientific project competition "BRFFR (Belarusian Republican Foundation for Basic Research) –NSFC (National Natural Science Foundation of China)– 2026" held by the Belarusian Republican Foundation for Fundamental Research and China's National Natural Science Foundation.
According to Li Qiuhua, cooperation between Belarus and China is established across various areas and is successfully implemented. Guizhou University and P.M. Masherov VSU also have a number of agreements facilitating interaction in the fields of art and music; however, starting from this point, close partnership will also be developed in the research direction. The Chinese side expressed confidence that, in addition to advancing scientific projects, joint activities will be no less successful in exporting educational services: students and teachers from both universities will have the opportunity for internships both in Belarus and in China.
Andrei Mekhovich noted that there are indeed many opportunities for fruitful cooperation today, primarily thanks to the friendship between the leaders of the two states. Furthermore, science, education, and culture have always been and will remain unbreakable bridges between the Republic of Belarus and the People's Republic of China. Andrei Pavlovich also emphasized that the Faculty of Chemical, Biological and Geographical Sciences at P.M. Masherov VSU employs renowned scientists who have dedicated their entire lives to science, meaning that working together will be not only pleasant but also reliable.
The idea of the joint project involves a comparative study of the mechanisms of accumulation and migration of heavy metals in the aquatic food chains of water bodies in China and Belarus. For this purpose, the program of the working visit, in addition to introductions to the university's laboratories and infrastructure, includes visits to several water bodies for the collection of water and soil samples.
